Visit to Franklyn Wooden Poultry Farm
2010 Date: June 27

The history of a rural farm community will be the focus of a program offered at Howell Farm on Sunday, June 27, when the public can tour a classic poultry and egg farm that is part of the Pleasant Valley Rural Historic District. This farm was in operation between 1938 and 1968.

The house and poultry farm of the Frank Wooden family will be featured during walking tours throughout the afternoon. Poultryman Tom Wooden, son of Franklyn, and Howell Farm historian Larry Kidder will host the tours, which include stops at the Wooden family house, that was originally the Pleasant Valley School, and the brooder house built by Franklyn Wooden after he purchased the school in 1938.

This recent photo shows the Wooden home (former schoolhouse) and the brooder house on the right. The three story hen house can be seen behind the family house.
