Ducks and Geese, both domestic and wild, can be found on and near the pond.  The ducks and geese often come up to the corn crib looking for stray kernals of corn that have dropped under the crib.  We know that an African-American farmer named Benjamin Wilson, who lived in the house on Valley Road whose property adjoins Howell Farm raised ducks in the period 1900-1908.

Barn Swallows return to the barn every spring where they reuse the mud and straw nests that can be seen along the beams under the floor boards of the loft.  Once the eggs hatch, the mother Swallows can be seen flying in and out of the barn bringing food to the young.  Young birds in a swallow nest can be seen in the photo below.

A number of wild bird species can be seen from time to time.
