How the Internship Program Works

General

The intern program is designed to involve participants in as many of the seasonal activities as possible. Interns are expected to help with the farm's general operation by doing morning and evening chores, helping with farm work, working on some Sundays and holidays, and by occasionally providing overnight security. By assuming these responsibilities, interns make it possible for the farm to offer them free living quarters, farm products, and a stipend.

Training

A full-time trainer supported by a farm staff of eight others provides training. The training is hands-on in nature with occasional sit-down sessions.

Housing

Living accommodations are modest, with each intern having a private room and access to a shared kitchen, living room, and bathroom. All utilities are paid for. However, interns are responsible for their own health, transportation, and telephone costs. Interns are insured through workman's compensation for accidental injury while on the job.

Program Dates

Program dates vary from year to year but generally the twelve-week sessions run as follows: Spring; March through May, Summer, June through August, Fall; September through November.
